Stress and Body Repair

DHEA is the most common hormone in the body. It’s associated with cell repair. It’s manufactured by the adrenal gland.

Cortisol — the stress hormone — has the same chemical precursors as DHEA.

Over production of Cortisol reduces muscle mass, increases bone loss, interferes with the generation of new skin cells, promotes fat accumulation and reduces memory and learning abilities.

Given it has the same precursors as DHEA, it has to choose which way to go. What your body needs in the moment. If the body is in a constant state of fright, flight or freeze (from real or perceived or residual threats), the chronic, ongoing levels of Cortisol required suck biochemical resources away from cell repair.

Mental Focus + Body Responses

“An undisciplined mind leaks vital energy in a continuous stream of thoughts, worries, and skewed perceptions, many of which trigger disturbing emotions and degenerative chemical processes in the body.”

— Ronald Glaser study from the Ohio State University College of Medicine.

“The stressful thoughts that lead to the secretion of stress-related norepinephrine impede out evolutionary-derived natural healing capabilities. These thoughts are often only in our minds, and not a reality.

The biochemical and genetic effects, as far as your body is concerned, are the same.”

— Herbert Benson MD.

“Neurons are wired to respond to novel events.”

— Martin Steiglman
